For several years I have been using ballpoint pen to create a series of large-scale drawings on paper. Interested in expanding this work as well as the definition of drawing, I have been working with wire, weaving and twisting its colored strands to create a linear matrix that interacts with the wire's shadows.
I work with computer, telephone and intercom wire, and my tied-together, web-like net of lines also references our intricate, interconnecting pathways of communication, including the inter-"net" and "web", where instantaneous and far-reaching connections seem to be tying the world together invisibly. As an antidote to the current trend of conceptual, computer-generated art, my wire drawings celebrate the immediacy of the hand-made line as I use computer wire to bring cyberspace back to earth.
